Auburn and South Carolina Take the SEC Championship

The 2010 South East Conference Football Championship will be a matchup between Auburn University and the University of South Carolina. The big game ends on Saturday, December 4, at 4:00 pm in Georgian Dome in downtown Atlanta. This is the 19th year of the SEC Championship. The championship began in 1992 when the South East Conference extended to Arkansas and South Carolina. The SEC 2010 championship is blocking champions of the South Carolina Division of the East Division against the Western Champion Auburn Tigers.

South Carolina University is one of the oldest state universities in the country. Founded in 1801, the flagship campus is located in Columbia. Each university enrollment exceeds 44,000 students and the university offers a 324 degree program. The South Carolina athletics teams are known as the Gamecocks. South Carolina's national football team joined the South East Conference in 1992 after being an independent team for 20 years. Their coach is Steve Spurrier, who is sixth with the team. Spurrier had spent twelve years at the Florida Gators Headmaster and in 2002 was the head coach of the NFL Washington Redskins. Gamecock's last plush appearance was 2010 Papa John Bowl, where UConn was lost. The team's record this year is 8-3, 5-3 SEC.

Auburn University was founded in 1856 as the East Alabama College of Men. Over the years, after several name changes, the institution became known as Auburn University in 1960. Auburn has close to 25,000 students and offers more than 140 professionals. Auburn athletics teams are known as Tigris. Auburn's head coach Gene Chizik, who is second in the campus. Auburn appeared last year at Outback Bowl, where he beat Northwestern. The Tigers were impressive in the 2010 season. The record is 11-0, 7-0 SEC.

Auburn has won the six SEC championship titles, the last in 2004. Currently, Auburn is ranked 2nd in the nation with all four major polls. In South Carolina, currently # 17, he never won the SEC title. The SEC Champion winner will be automatically invited to a BCS Bowl game. In South Carolina there has never been a BCS Bowl appearance. Auburn played in the 2005 BCS Sugar Bowl where he beat Virginia Techt. The game is promising for Auburn and South Carolina fans.
